Cleaning Up The Neighborhood!

The Touch and Feel was especially messy today!  It was full of shredded paper.  The kids loved spreading it apart and tossing it across the pool.  There were tongs and spoons and mixers in the pool and the kids created all sorts of conconctions to serve each other!  We had to vaccuum before we could continue with morning circle, but it was worth all the giggles and fun we had!

Ms. Abby was here today.  She had stations that two kids completed at a time, then we all rotated through them as centers.  The first activity was jumping from differnt colored dots, pick up a bean bag and hop back to the start line. Next the kids had to run down to a cone, pick up a ball and run back to the beginning. The last center had the kids jumping over three hurdles, doing a short hopscotch trail, then kicking a soccer ball through the goal. The kids loved all the centers, but they also enjoyed cheering on their friends!  When they moved through the stations as centers, the kids were fairly independent because of the practice they had completed first!
 
Today's story was Max Goes To The Recycling Center by Adria Klein.  In the story Max went to the Recycling Center and learned all the different kinds of materials that can be recycled. He learned that paper can be made into cereal boxes, cans can be made into a metal chair, and plastic can be made into a t-shirt. After reading the story the kids made a list of items they use at home that can go into the recycling bin. We can recycle books, jars, cereal boxes, water bottles and juice boxes!

 

 

For science today we went on a litter hunt. We learned during literacy circle that litter is when people throw trash on the ground instead of in the trash can or recycling bin. Litter is bad for the Earth, so the class decided to help keep the Earth clean. We walked around the neighborhood looking for trash. The kids would yell "Stop, I found litter!" and a teacher would pick up the trash. The kids carried the bags of trash and had to identify what each piece was made of.  We found paper, plastic, and cans!

 

 

 

We spent the rest of the afternoon in centers.  Some kids were writing letters, some were putting letters in order, some were matching uppercase letters with lowercase letters, and some were practicing name writing.  It was a classroom full of little workers!  We were so sad that our special science visitor couldn't come to school today, but we were so busy with other things that the kids didn't even mention it!
