Elves at Work...

The Touch and Feel was full of buttons today.  All shapes, sizes, and colors.  We sorted....we pretended.....we matched.....and we had a shower of buttons to clean up afterwards! 

Ms. Abby was here today.  The kids always love when it's her day to visit.  They can't wait to get outside and see what she has in store for them! After we warmed up our muscles, we did a following directions activity with ribbon wands.  Up, down, slow, fast, behind the back....I'm not sure Ms. Abby knew how language rich her activity actually was, but it was great!!  The kids sure enjoyed swinging those ribbons in all directions.  It looked like an Olympic show.....only a little less organized and a little more noisy!  Then we rotated through different stations that all targeted throwing.  There were scarves to throw and catch, bean bags to toss, tennis ball Velcro target practice and basketball.  The kids took a turn at each station and transitioned with little adult direction.  The time went by really fast and I think they all had a wonderful time.

The Littlest Elf by Brandi Daugherty was our literacy for today. The book is about an elf who wanted to find a special job for himself.  He had a difficult time finding something he could do, because he was so little.  After experimenting with several different workshops, Oliver the Elf met a tiny reindeer named Dot.  Dot was frustrated because he was too little to fly.  They decided to work together to find something to do.  By working together and not giving up, they ended up being Santa's special helpers.



Art today was making a button wreath.  The kids all worked independently to string buttons on some wire to make a wreath.  It was so quiet while they all concentrated to complete the task.  They were able to encourage and compliment each other so that everyone finished.  We were building fine motor skills while making a really cute Christmas decoration!  Ms. Michelle would be proud!

 We had some official song practice after lunch. There was some significant progress from yesterday!  The kids are definitely learning the words!  We re-read our performance and started talking about the different parts that they would each be reading.  That created some momentary mass confusion as they all started arguing over the parts they wanted.....two things we know for certain.....show business is a tough world....and sometimes....actors are impossible to please!!  We can't wait for you guys to see all our hard work!
