On Our Way to December...

After playing with yearn this morning in the Touch and Feel, we practiced our Christmas songs.  There is a very fine line between singing loud and yelling and we are trying to find a balance with the kiddos!!  You can help by practicing Jingle Bells and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. 

Shall I Knit You a Hat by Kate Klise was our book for today.  This story follows Mother Rabbit and Little Rabbit as they prepare for a blizzard that is coming on Christmas Eve.  To ensure Little Rabbit will be secure in the storm, Mother Rabbit knits a hat that will perfectly fit Little Rabbit’s tall ears. Because Little Rabbit enjoys his hat so much, he suggests that he and his mother make more hats to help keep his friends warm too. They visit the horse, the goose with the long neck, the stylish cat, the dog, and the deer with antlers, to make measurements for their hat. Little Rabbit and his mother stay up all night knitting and sewing each individual hat. The next day, they decide to use a sled to deliver their presents in the market due to snow on the ground. Just as they hand out the hats, snowflakes begin to fall from the sky! Luckily, all the friends have their new hats for the weather!  The kids loved looking at all the hats made special for each animal.



During art, we made our own winter hats.  We covered the hats with yarn, the warm material that the rabbits in the story used, and decorated the hats.  Although the kiddos can't actually wear these hats, they all had a story to tell about their favorite hats that they have at home!

More Holiday Performance practice after lunch.  We handed out individual parts and practiced as a group.  We sent the books home today for you to help practice at home.  Your child can read the book to you or you can read to them.  Either way.....we want them to KNOW the story AND their part in two weeks!  They were so cute and now that they each know their part, I think they are starting to see it come together.

We also drew names for our Gift Exchange today.  I'm not sure the kids fully understand how this is going to work.....we did a mini lesson on how everyone will get a present and we are all friends.....EVEN if we didn't draw our very best friend's name!  They were super excited about the "secret" part of this game, but we'll see how long that lasts!  There is a lot going on at school this time of year.  I am so proud of the children for how well they transition and keep up with our fast-paced, try to fit it all in and get it all done schedule!
