When I woke up this morning....I could hear the rain falling! I immediately knew that this Out and About day was going to be.....interesting! To say the least....it was a very rainy day! And that doesn't even mention the cold temperatures!
When the kids came to school we had unifix cubes in the Touch and Feel pool. The kids used them to build and make very tall towers. When it was time to clean up everyone made towers of ten in the same color. Sorting, counting, color naming.....and it all looked like blocks!
After a quick morning circle and review of the rules for the Out & About and riding the train we were off! The kids were so excited that we were actually walking in the rain! They loved jumping in the big puddles, splashing, and sloshing around in the mud! They thought the rain was fun and didn't mind getting wet. Watching them have so much fun definitely made the trip more fun than I expected!! We successfully rode the train to the ImaginOn stop and quiuckly headed into the library to dry off and get out of the rain.
Our storyteller was wonderful! Ms. Cynthia remembered our group from last year and she was great with the kiddos! She read three stories and used all kinds of props and visuals to keep everyone interested. Between each story she had them sing different songs and use their hands for motions. She also gave the kids rhythm sticks to practice a nursery rhyme. The kids thought those were wonderful...we will definitely be making some for our classroom!
After story time we headed back to school. The walk back after the train ride was windy and cold. It's not as much fun coming home from the Out and About! The kids were excited to get back to school and eat their lunch. All that walking makes them VERY hungry! They were all such troopers in the rain! I think they had as much fun in the unplanned (rainy) part of the day, as they did the actual story time!
