We had a longer circle time this morning because we thought we might not have much time after our Out and About. We did our normal calendar routine and added a new letter to our chart. Then we read a story about Going to The Doctor. This story told us all about a family who all went to the doctor together. The brother had a hurt wrist. Wrist was a new vocabulary word for the day. The sister had a sore throat. The baby sister had to get some shots so that she wouldn't get sick. We learned that there are all kinds of reasons that people go to the doctor. The book showed us things we might see at the doctor and things that the doctor might do during our visit. At the end of the story, the family gets a prescription (another new vocabulary word) and heads off the to pharmacy to pick up their medicine.
Today's video was a BIG hit! The kids sang and danced along. They sang it all the way to the pharmacy, all the way back, and ALL during lunch! Beware.....before you watch, be warned....this is one of those songs that gets stuck in your head forever!
Our Out and About was so much fun! The sun was shining, but it was really windy. As long as we were walking in the sunshine it wasn't too cold....in the shade things got a little chilly! The kids were singing the whole way and talking about the storm last night. When we got to Dilworth Drug, they Ms. Jamie, Mr. Josh, and Mr. Shawn all welcomed us. The kids told them what we had been learning about at school and were able to answer their questions about germs and staying healthy. Ms. Jamie was very impressed with what they knew. She showed the kids pictures of what real germs look like if you made them really big. They are nearly as cute as in our germ video. Then we took a short tour of the back of the pharmacy. We say bottles of medicines, eye drops, ear drops, boxes of medicines, gummy medicines, empty bottles where they put the medicine....and medicine flavors. Dilworth Drug has BACON flavored medicine.....that they typically use for dogs!! We left with a big bag of goodies to help us stay germ-free and healthy at school. Each child got a small hand santizer. There were tissues, band-aids, hand santizer, and anitbiotic ointment for the classroom. We had a wonderful time at Dilworth Drug!
Lunch time was more singing.....along with some excitement that tomorrow is the first day of February which brings a whole new set of birthdays! Then we all said good-bye to Arthur. Today is his last day of school with us before he travels home. He made some wonderful friends and I know that the kids will miss him! We will get his new address so that we can write to him and send him pictures of all the fun things we are doing.
Enjoy the weekend! Next week is a new theme filled with super fun stuff!
