What are Snow PEOPLE?

Today we started the day with oats in the Touch and Feel.  The kids thought that it was really neat to learn that when you added hot water to the oats.....you got oatmeal!!  We explored the oats with our hands and studied them up close with magnifying glasses.  When it was all done, we had to vaccuum, but it was well worth the experience.

The weather was so nice outside today, we took advantage and spent some extra time on the playground.  The kids all worked together and took turns playing a form of basketball that they kinda made up.  It was wonderful to watch them cheering for each other and sharing the balls so nicely.

Our book today was Snow Woman by David McKee.  This is a story about a brother and sister who want to build a snowman.  The sister decides that it isn't fair to always build snowmen....so she wants to build a snow WOMAN!  They decide to dress their snowpeople in clothes from mommy and daddy, but when they wake up the next morning.....the snowpeople are gone! 



We spent an extra long time with our literacy lesson today.  First, we made a chart of all the family roles that girls could be (mommy, sister, aunt) and the roles that boys could be (daddy, brother, uncle).  Then we learned about boy pronouns and girl pronouns.  When you are talking about a boy, you have to use the word HE and when you are talking about a girl, you have to use the word SHE.  Each child took turns making sentences from pictures using those new vocabulary words.  They all did so great!

We didn't do art today, but we needed to get some materials ready for our special science experiment tomorrow.  We took a walk down to the kitchen and filled up some balloons with water from the sink.  We talked about how they felt and looked before and after we put the water inside.  We needed to turn that water into ice, so we talked about where would be the best place to put them.  We decided that the oven wouldn't work, so we put them in the freezer.  We will check them again in the morning and see what has happened.....hopefully, they will be ready for our science!
