Feelings....

Today was the perfect day to start talking about feelings because we had every feeling possible represented during morning circle!  You can't beat incidental learning!!  Some kids were tired, some were happy and excited, others were mad and angry, and a few were even kinda sad!  It was interesting to hear them talk about their feelings.  They might not have had all the vocabulary sorted out, but they could clearly tell us they were NOT happy!



We made a class list of new "feeling" words and drew some faces to help us remember.  We talked about things that made us feel angry or nervous or excited or tired......it always had to do with something mommies did!  You moms sure can evoke a lot of emotion from the kiddos!!!

We read TWO books today that gave us plenty of ideas about APPROPRIATE things to do when we get mad or angry.  The class made an Angry Octopus with an idea on each leg of things that turn angry into happy.  Some ideas the kids remembered from the story and others they came up with on their own.  The rest of the day we used it to help when someone started to get angry!  I will say that it takes longer for them to decide how they want to get "un-angry", than it actually takes to do the act itself! 




Today we separtated into some alphabet center games to specifically target some letter learning.  Some kids did matching games, some practiced writing their names, some sequenced the letters of the alphabet, and some even matched words with their first letter.  I couldn't believe how much they liked these "games"!  They were difficult, but the kids were working so hard we were a little late with lunch! 

By the end of the day.....everyone had the same feeling....tired!  It's hard to come back after FIVE days of vacation!  And to work as hard as we did today.....I forsee a quick nap in the car on the way home!!
