Snowmen!!

Touch and Feel this morning was full of white cotton balls.  We made pretend snowmen, practiced using our breath to move the balls, compared sizes and shapes, and even had a PRETEND snowball fight!  The kids really seemed to enjoy the pool this morning!

Ms. Michelle joined us for some of our morning circle this morning.  The kids were so excited to see her!  She commented on how impressive it was that all the kiddos knew the days of the week and the months of the year!  They were all singing extra loud, so I'm sure they were showing off for her!

Ms. Michelle had so many fun things today for us to explore.  She had a rope ladder on the floor that the kids have to navigate all kinds of different ways.  They went one foot at a time, jumping with two feet, sideways, and backwards.....all while trying hard to stay off the white rungs of the ladder.  Sometimes there was so much giggling that it was impossible!

We kicked a soccer ball through a goal, but once the kids figured out that they could kick the ball through the open door.....we had to develop a new strategy because Ms. Michelle and I were fetching WAY too many soccer balls from the hallway!

Parachute was next on the list!  After a mini-lesson about trying to keep the bouncy items ON the parachute instead of trying to bounce them OFF.....the kids did great!  We moved the parachute fast, slow, up high, down low, and round and round in a circle!


The last thing we did was have some practice with figure-ground activities.  Ms. Michelle had Tupperware containers full of cotton balls (great minds think alike!!).  Hidden in the cotton balls were all sorts of other white things that the kids had to find!  They had so much fun discovering what was inside the container and showing their friends!  It was like a real treasure hunt!



The Biggest Snowman Ever by Steven Kroll was our story for the day about a snowman building contest that a mouse town was having.  Everyone was super excited to build their snowman, but Desmond and Clayton decided to build the BIGGEST snowman ever.  They soon realized that they couldn't do it alone, so they decided to work together.  They won the contest and became great friends.


The literacy lesson was about comparing things that were BIG, MEDIUM, and LITTLE.  The kids thought of things and we classified them in a chart.  Once they had the hang of that we used superlatives to describe other things.  We talked about Big, Bigger, and Biggest.  We even used our own classmates for a real life example!!


For art today we used the cotton balls to make our own snowmen.  The kids covered their snowmen with cotton balls and gave him all the necessary body parts.  It was so much fun to watch them build their snowpeople and be able to use the new vocabulary to describe him!!
