Who Is ROY G. BIV?

We started the day with writing with sidewalk chalk on black paper.  The kids shared colors and made some beautiful pictures!  They wrote letters, numbers, their names, and drew rainbows. 

At morning circle, we talked about today being the first day of Spring.  We moved our season chart to help us remember.....but we didn't re-dress Froggy.....because no matter what season it is, it's still pretty cold outside.  Hopefully, soon he will be wearing shorts and short sleeves!  The kids are really looking forward to some springtime weather!

Ms. Abby was FINALLY back today and they were all so excited to see her.  She set up stations to review all the things that we had learned last semester.  There was basketball, soccer, walking on the balance beam, and ribbon dancing.  The kids rotated through the startions practicing each activity and practicing the vocabulary. 

Our story today was a building sequence story all about colors.  In the deep blue sea, there was a red rock.....with a green tree on it....with a brown nut on it.....and so on.  The kids listened carefully as a white cloud covered the yellow sun.....then turned grey.....and.....they guessed it before we could even read the page....RAIN!  And of course, at the end, a beautiful rainbow!

Our language activity today was to learn all about Roy G. Biv.  The kids had never heard of this person.....but when we told them it was a secret trick to help them remember the colors of the rainbow....they were hooked!  We learned that the letters of Roy G. Biv use the first letter of the colors of the rainbow.  Red always comes first!  They wanted to know why blue didn't come first and I told them a reason that I found plausible.....science just works that way!



For art, we made rainbows.....in the correct Roy G. Biv order....of course!  We took white clouds and added each color to make a wind sock ornament.  The kids worked independently and were all able to tell us the name that helps us remember the colors in the right order as we wrote it on their project.

We ended the day with rainbow writing.  One color of the rainbow for each letter in our name.  They drew rainbows and....I think most of them have memorized the color order.....without Roy G. Biv.  But....they were policing each other to make sure that nobody's rainbow was out of order!  I even overheard them say "do it like science"!!
