All About PARTS!!

What a dreary Tuesday!!  But....that didn't stop any of our fun today!  It was a jam packed, full of activity kind of day!  This was our first day talking about My Body!

The day started off with our special Tuesday visitor....Ms. Michelle!  Ms. Michelle introduced herself and asked each child his name.  It was so cute that they reached out to shake hands with her....just like we practice each morning.  We started with big muscle movements.  Ms. Michelle had set up a zig zag balance beam course.  The kids had to walk the beams using careful, slow steps.  Once they finished they hopped from different colored steps to finish the course.

Waiting on the other side of the room were wooden spoons and wooden eggs.  Each child took an egg and balanced it in the spoon while walking.  Total concentration....well....at first.....then there was LOTS of laughing!

After we had warmed up all the big muscles....and practiced some serious balancing skills, we moved to working out the little muscles.  These little muscles are the ones that help us when we are writing.  Ms. Michelle had three stations set up for the kids to rotate through.  First, was geometric shapes puzzles.  These were similar to tangrams.  The kids had to find the shapes to make different animals.

The next station was all about bugs!  There were several sets of tweezers and tongs that the kids needed to use to pick up and sort different kinds of bugs.  A class favorite was the bubble tongs.  These tongs have a plastic bubble at the end where you "capture" the bug.  It functions kinda like scissors.....and it looks really cool too!

The third station was snaps, buttons, and Velcro strips.  Ms. Michelle showed us how to put the strips together to make long chains.  The kids really enjoyed making the chains....and bracelets.....and necklaces.....to wear!  We had more than a few protests when it was time to leave them behind!

Playground time was next....and since there was a momentary (a real quick moment) lapse in the rain!  We got outside and just got into playing with the Weekday friends when it started pouring.  No exaggeration!  Serious downpour!  The kids thought it was REALLY funny to watch Ms. Kelly and Ms. Graylyn gather up the children in the rain!  So....if your child's clothes were a little damp this afternoon....that's why!

After we dried off....and regrouped....we read our story for the day.  Thank You For Me by Marion Bauer is a story about us being thankful for all our body parts.  Each body part helps us do things and when we add all those parts up.....it makes US!!

Art today celebrated a special body part that only people have....THUMBS!  We used our thumbs....and all our other fingers to paint!  Yes....finger painting!  It was very messy....and some kiddos had a difficult time staying messy, but we made it through.  We will send the products home tomorrow.  They needed a little extra time to dry.

So today your children came home a little wet.....with a little paint on them.....and extremely tired!  I would say that makes today a big success!  We can't promise clean....but, as always we deliver on the fun learning part!
