Today we began our discussion of the Senses. You might have guessed that at drop off from all the different smells wafting from the classroom. Some smelly in a nice and pleasant way.....others, not so much! As we prepared for the children's sensory activity this morning, which was scented cotton balls, the adults sure did get sneezy!!
Ms. Michelle came today.....and just like she promised.....it was messy! She didn't exactly plan all the messiness, but you know what they say about the best laid plans! Ms. Michelle had this wonderful obstacle course set up in the courtyard. She gave the directions and demonstrated. When the kids started taking turns, we all heard a strange, however familiar, sound. The kids immediately responded with laughter and yelling. It took the adults a few minutes longer. We didn't realize what was happening until the water from the irrigation system sprayed us! Like I said.....the best laid plans!! We relocated and continued the session no worse for the wear. There was hammering, heavy balls, tunnels, stuffed animals to toss, bear walking, and running. It was a lot to remember, but once they got started, everyone did a great job!
Our book today was What's That Awful Smell by Heather Tekavec. It's all about animals on a farm using their noses to find a smell in the barn. Dog thinks the smell’s coming from Piglet. They try everything to get the
smell off of him, but nothing seems to work! But is it really Piglet who smells,
or something they would never expect....like a LIVER, ONION, TUNA FISH SANDWICH!!In art today we made Smelly Flowers. After we put all the parts together to make a flower, we smelled and smelled, but we couldn't find anything to sniff. So.....we made some special smelly paint to add to our flowers. The kids all added it with their hands to the middle of the flowers to give them the nice smell flowers should have.
