The sun was out today....and fall is right around the corner! Playground was much less eventful today.....not a raindrop in sight! BUT....you could definitely tell that the children didn't get all their wiggles out yesterday.....because they made up for it today!
Our story today was Good Thing You're Not an Octopus by Julie Markes. The boy in the book considers how some of the activities he doesn't like would change, if he were different animals. For example, if he were an octopus, he would have eight legs to put into his pants! Mealtime, bath time, nap time, and many other things would be very different if he were a bird, a tiger, shark, or kangaroo. At the end of the day he realizes that the best thing of all is to be himself!
Today's science was about body coverings. We all know the basic body parts: eyes, nose, mouth, ears, hair, feet, etc. But....what part covers our whole body? SKIN! We talked about how skin is soft and big and helps keep our insides safe. Does skin help keep fish safe? No....fish don't have skin....they have scales. What about birds? That one was easy....birds have feathers! We classified and contrasted each covering using some descriptive words, then we made a take home reminder to help us tell our families what we learned. The kids did a great job working independently to complete their sheets.
Tomorrow is another day all about My Body! And....it's FINALLY Thursday! Anyone else feel like this has been a LOOOOONG week??
