Can Anybody Hear Me

Today was all about the sense of hearing!  We started the day with air filled packaging in the Touch and Feel pool.  Someone at the church was throwing it away until we "resuced" it for our morning sensory activity!  Once the kids learned that they could pop those packages to make a sound....they couldn't do it fast enough.  Lots of laughter....in between covering their ears.....what a great way to introduce sound!

Our book today was Can Anybody Hear Me? by Jessica Meserve.  This is a story about a boy named Jack.  Jack is very quiet—which wouldn’t be so bad if the rest of his family wasn’t SO NOISY. No one can hear him over the sound of their own voices. So when Jack tells them he's going up the mountain one day, nobody hears him. And when night falls, he gets lost and nobody knows where he is.  Jack is very brave and has to find his voice in order to help his family find him.



After our book, we headed out on a walk around the neighborhood using our senses.  We heard birds and firetrucks and buses.  We saw squirrels and leaves falling and people walking.  We felt the sun on on faces and the wind on our arms.  We smelled fresh cut grass and flowers.  Thank goodness no tasting!  We had it on the chart.....but carefully avoided anythihng that might fall into that catergory!

Our walk ended at the park!  We took the LONG way down and around the block to help build up some stamina for our future Out and About trips!  To our surprise our Weekday Friends were there for a picnic!  We played for a little while and then headed back to school for lunch.  By the time we arrived back, the kids were moving a little slow!  We could tell they were worn out!  So.....again we send them home tired.....it's another great day at school!
