It's FALL!

IT'S FALL!!  This weekend I collected some fall items from the neighborhood.  Pine cones, pine needles, leaves of all colors, acorns, pecans, and twigs for the Touch and Feel.  Apparently, I also collected some bugs too.....and you better believe, the kids let me know about it!!  A spider, two strange unknown bugs, and a tiny rolli polli!  The sensory experience was more than we bargained for this morning!!

Fall Leaves Fall!  by Zoe Hall is a book that tells about all the things that we can do with leaves.  Leaves are for watching, catching, stomping, kicking, and collecting, and big piles of freshly raked leaves are perfect for jumping into!  We learned that leaves have different names like maple, ginkgo, sassafras, beech, and oak, and look different.....just like people!



Our leaf walk got cancelled because immediately following outside time, the rain started pouring!  We could hear it from inside our classroom.  The kids all agreed that it would be better to walk on a different day!  Thank Goodness!!

For art, we used the leaves from Touch and Feel to make Leaf Rubbings.  We talked about the parts of the leaves and the different shapes.  The kids all shared and traded leaves and crayons to make wonderful pictures.  We they could see the leaf appear on the paper, it was like something magical had happened.  They were all so excited!

We are hoping for better weather tomorrow....not to mention it's hard to talk about fall when it's 80 degrees outside!
