Happy Halloween!

In their plans for Halloween, I'm certain the children never considered coming to school being on that list!  They were certainly "active" today.....the excitement of tonight hardly contained!

Ms. Abby was here today with some great games to practice kicking, dribbling, and trapping a soccer ball.  We took turns kicking into a goal and playing goalie.  I'm not sure that they fully understood the purpose of goalie.....there were lots of balls getting kicked through spread legs.....or goalie's who helped the kicker score points....and LOTS of laughing!!  We dribbled the balls around the courtyard and when Ms. Abby yelled "freeze", we had to put one foot on top of the ball to trap it.  The kids loved the lesson and we so excited to see that the Weekday friends were watching!

Brooms Are For Flying by Michael Rex is a fun book that uses action verbs to talk about all the fun things that happen on Halloween.  One Halloween, a little witch joins a group of young trick-or-treaters, and they all participate in a wonderful foot-stomping, hand-clapping dance. But when the children take off their masks, they get a big surprise: under her mask, the little witch really is a witch—and she shows the others that brooms really are for flying.  This book was great practice for -ing verbs and pronouns.  The kids acted out the story and made sentences about the characters. 



For art, we decided to play directly into the madness of the day and paint with our hands AND our feet!  We broke the children into stations.....for painting and cleaning up.....and with great adult supervision and assistance, we created the cutest pictures of ghosts in the scary forest.  The kids all commented on the "tickles" they felt when we painted their feet!  So.....if you find paint between your child's toes tonight after trick or treating.....you'll know it was just another messy day at school!! 

 

 

Before we said goodbye, we read a social story about trick or treating.  It reminded all the kids of the rules and how to stay with moms and dads at all times.  We practiced "trick or treat" about a hundred times today....so I think they are all ready!  Have a VERY happy and safe Halloween!  Take lots of pictures.....we can't wait to hear all the fun stories tomorrow!!  May your night be filled with many treats and very few tricks!!
