Who knew that applesauce for the Touch and Feel activity would be such a hit?? Certainly not me! And for children who are SUCH picky eaters.....they were inhaling the sensory activity like they were starving! They were supposed to be writing their names and drawing pictures in the applesauce, but they were eating it instead! I didn't plan on a morning snack....but it sure made for happy children during our morning circle!!
Ms. Abby was back again today for some outside fun! The kids jumped over hurdles, practiced jumping in and out of circles, and had a relay race. All those activities required coordination and following directions. We are getting better at waiting our turn.....even when we really don't want to! The last activity was all about balancing! Each child climbed up on a barrel and balanced for 2 seconds.....and then they got to jump off! Some children needed more encouragement.....and some needed holding back just a bit....but I'm very proud to say that everyone took a turn!!
The book of the day was Ducking for Apples by Lynne Berry. This story is about a group of 5 ducks that set out on their bikes to collect apples so that they can make a pie. When they find the apple tree, they can't reach the apples so they have to use teamwork to get what they need. They climb on each other's shoulders and the duck on the top picks the apples.
In our language circle, we learned the parts of an apple. Stem, core, leaves, skin, seeds.....we gave the kids the vocabulary, so forgive us if they don't eat their fruit next time because they are too busy labeling it!!
Art was making paper plate apples. We took pieces of shredded paper and glued them in the right spots to create our own apple with all the parts. The kids were so focused on getting the right colors in the right places so that their apple would look like the sample. They turn out really cute! Be sure and ask about the parts and see if they can remember!!
