A Tea Party With Friends!

Instead of our regular Touch and Feel, we spent the morning decorating our Valentine's Day bags.  There were stickers and crayons all over the table.  Each child had to peel the stickers themselves and make some sort of drawing/writing design on the bag before it was considered "done".  After a few minutes of work and concentration, they turned those plain brown bags into works of art!

Before we headed outside, we did Show and Tell.  Titus shared about his teddy bear named Chimney and Jack shared about his transformers that turn into a helicopter and a firetruck.  All the other kiddos were a wonderful audience.  They listened quietly, asked questions, and clapped when their friends were finished. 

Today we read Miss Spider's Tea Party by David Kirk.  This story is a counting book about a spider who wants to have a tea party.  None of her insect friends want to come to the party because they are scared that she will eat them.  Miss Spider is very sad until she helps Moth dry his wings off.  Moth tells all the other insects how nice Miss Spider was, and they all show up for a wonderful tea party.



For art today, we designed our own "tea cups".  The kids decorated Styrofoam cups with different colored crayons and bug stickers.  Some kids colored the bottoms of the cups....and a few even had color on the inside!  They turned out really cute and the kids are excited to use them for a tea party at home!

We found a fun app for the iPad called Toca Tea Party that we used today to practice making choices and requesting.  The app allows three friends to have a pretend tea party.  They choose a table cloth for the group, then they each pick plates, cups, snacks, and napkins.  They can eat their snacks and request more.  There is even a clean up time where the dishes have to be washed.  We did this practice in small groups and the kids LOVED it!  We even saw some of the skills transfer over to lunchtime!
