Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

For touch and feel the kids made letters and shapes with play dough. They used their muscles to flatten the play dough so they could use the ccookie cutters.. They shared the letters with their friends so they could all spell out their names.

During morning circle we talked about the calendar. Today was Connor's birthday! Then we practiced the other nursery rhymes we have already learned this week. They all remembered so much!  We ended circle time with the kids identifying different months in random order so they could practice "reading" them.

Our nursery rhyme for today was "Twinkle, Twinkle." The kids described and defined what "twinkle" meant. It can be shiny, sparkly and might even look like its blinking. Then the kids worked on the concept "above." They each had to place a twinkling star on a picture above another object on the picture that the teacher named.

To help the kids practice their letters and sounds we played ABC musical chairs. On each chair we taped a star with a letter in the middle. The kids also got a star with a letter to hold in their hand. The class walked around the chairs while the music played...when the music stopped they had to walk and find the chair with the matching letter and identify the sound. The kids loved the activity so we will have to play using rhyming words next!

For art the kids made twinkling stars. A star has 5 points so they needed five objects to glue on the star. They used a straw, a pipe cleaner, a bead, a pom pom, and a paper clip to decorate the star. We described what the objects looked like and decided if they twinkled or not.

We ended the day with  music. We sang the Humpty Dumpty song and did the dance that the TK kiddos taught us this morning. We also listened and sang "Twinkle, Twinkle" It was a short week but we still had time to learn many different things. I look forward to reporting some wonderful progress at conferences tomorrow!
