What's In the Clouds?

This morning we used our IMAGINATION to made shapes, animals, and pretend food out of Floam.  The kids were serving each other meatballs, and hissing like snakes, and some even made their names.  The highlight of the day was when Garrett came in the classroom wearing a Birthday Prince hat....because today is his birthday!

Ms. Michelle had some relay races set up for us.  Each team had a large pair of scissors that they had to use to pick up a small stuffed animal.  They had to race to the other end of the room, find their matching color, and drop the animal.  Then they ran back and passed off the scissors to the next member of their team.  It was a great exercise in concentration and mulit-tasking! 

We played some balloon volleyball next.  First, we matched up in partners and tried tapping the balloon to our partner.....but considering the fact that it's raining and there was no outside time today....that got out of control really quickly.  We changed gears and all worked together to keep a few balloons from hitting the ground.  A little more controlled chaos!!

Ms. Michelle finished with some finger fun.  She had some gel water beads mixed in with legos inside a bucket.  Each child had to take a turn, dig around inside the bucket, and find the color and size lego that Ms. Michelle named.  Once everyone had all the legos, we had to copy a train design that Ms. Michelle built, using the same color blocks in the same order that she did.

Today's story was Max's Dragon by Kate Banks.  This story is about a boy named Max who uses his imagination to see a dragon in the clouds.  Along the way, as he chases the dragon around the meadow, he makes up rhyming words.  When the "dragon" finds a big, black dinosaur, it starts to storm.  Max and his brothers find cover under the umbrella and only a new rhyme will save them.  Since we couldn't go outside to find our own things in the clouds.....we watched a video to help us understand how to pretend that way!






For art, we used another Ms. Michelle trick and mixed shaving cream and glue together to make a concoction that stays fluffy.....just like clouds.  The kids used their pretend skills to draw what they saw in the clouds.  We went around the room and described what we saw to our friends.  I made a note on everyone's page about what they saw.....in case your imagination doesn't work the same way your child's does!!

Any day where it rains is a LONG day for the kiddos and the teachers.  We need to play outside!  Fingers crossed tomorrow brings better weather!  We need some energy release!!
