During morning circle we talked about the calendar and continued the pattern we started yesterday. Green, blue, green, blue......the colors take turns to make a simple pattern. We also practiced our letter sounds and identified words that started with that specific letter. I can't believe how academic our morning circle has become compared to the beginning of the year!
FINALLY....back out the playground today! It was still a little chilly, but the sunshine was such a welcome sight after inside recess yesterday!
Our story today was Alice the Fairy by David Shannon. Alice has a nose for trouble, but luckily she's a fairy--a Temporary Fairy. She has a magic wand, fairy wings, and a blanket, all of which she uses to disappear, to fly, to transform her dad into a horse, and to turn his cookies into her own! There are still a few things Alice needs to learn to become a Permanent Fairy, like how to float her dog on the ceiling and make her clothes put themselves away, but she's working on it--sort of. After reading the story, we practiced more with identifying words that rhyme.
For art we made fairy wands. The kids used a long straw as the wand. They each decorated their star with colorful, and yes.....magical, glitter. They also glued streamers to the wand. After the wand was finished, they all practiced being a fairy and used rhyming words as their magic words. Hocus Pocus and Abra Cadabra were clear favorites.....and I even got turned into a frog!! They were so cute dancing around, rhyming, and making magical wishes!! What a fun day!!
We ended the day with Show and Tell. Drew brought his Grandparents from Florida and Austin brought his very LARGE stuffed dog, Ollie. The kids all enjoy learning about each other by asking questions during Show and Tell. It's the highlight of their day to see what everyone brings from home!
